F.M. Kirby Foundation, begun by one of the founders of F.W. Woolworth, is a family foundation that makes grants primarily in geographic areas and to qualified nonprofit organizations with which the five generations of the family have associations.
Areas of interest include: Arts & Culture, Education, Environment, Health, Human Services, Public Benefit, and Religion – specifically Episcopal.
Successful new applicants tend to be organizations already well known to one or more of the directors of the foundation, or other members of the family.
nsolicited requests should be made in the form of a Letter of Inquiry. The foundation has no required application format, but looks for information on an organization’s current activities, grant amount requested, purpose, current directors, current annual budget and financial statements, and proof of tax-exempt status. All grant inquiries and requests must be mailed to the contact address.
