The National Endowment for the Arts Supports Projects Extending the Arts to Underserved Populations.

  Grant Amount: Grants of up to $10,000 are available.


The National Endowment for the Arts, through the Challenge America grant program, offers support for projects that are extending the reach of the arts to underserved populations (e.g., those whose opportunities to experience the arts are limited by geography, ethnicity, economics, or disability).
Proposals should detail the efforts made to reach the identified underserved population. Grants are available for professional arts programming and for projects that emphasize the potential of the arts in community development. Eligible projects include the use of a guest artist, collaborative marketing campaigns, and community-based public art projects.


Eligible organizations include:

• State governments
• Native American tribal governments (Federally recognized)
• County governments
• Special district governments
• Private institutions of higher education
• Nonprofits having a 501(c)(3) status with the IRS, other than institutions of higher education
• City or township governments
• Independent school districts
• Public and State controlled institutions of higher education
