About Organization

The Nehemiah Charitable Fund (NCF) is launching a Black Redistricting Campaign that will consist of various community organizing, advocacy and power-based building activities in San Bernardino County. The purpose of this campaign is to protect and safeguard minority voting rights and to prevent the incidence of racial injustice and social inequity for communities of color. Furthermore, this campaign aims to ensure the fair representation of input and decision-making involving people who reside in predominantly Black neighborhoods that will be impacted by the census and redistricting process.

Job Details


  • Minimum of a B.A. degree required in the field of public administration, civic engagement, social work, political science, etc.;
  • Minimum one year experience conducting organizing, advocacy and/or base building activities working with communities of color and/or vulnerable populations;
  • Prior experience working on voter engagement activities, racial justice and/or social equity issues is a plus;
  • Must be a resident of San Bernardino County;
  • Positive, proactive and personable team player;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team;
  • Must have experience with public speaking activities such as conducting community presentations, attending public hearings and/or city hall meetings;
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, verbal and written communications skills;
  • Strong Microsoft Office (MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint) applications and internet/social media skills are required
  • Must possess a driver’s license, auto insurance and have a good working vehicle as travel throughout San Bernardino County Region is required

General Responsibilities

Reports to: Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Increase and promote the redistricting process to communities of color through various forms of community outreach activities including the use of social media and PSAs (public service announcements);
  • Ability to engage with various key stakeholders, community leaders, city and county officials to ensure the fair representation of Black residents and people of color in the redistricting process;
  • Must attend various city/county public hearings about the redistricting process and be prepared to participate and provide input;
  • Meet with city/county officials to develop, review and/or propose maps for the redistricting process;
  • Network with other groups that are working on redistricting campaigns in the City/County of San Bernardino;
  • Coordinate and facilitate community of interest workshops to inform local residents about the census and redistricting process;
  • Identify and recruit a team of local residents from the targeted communities that will participate in the redistricting campaign;
  • Facilitate monthly or periodic Community Organizing and Civic Engagement Training for local residents to prepare them to engage and advocate with city officials on the redistricting process to ensure that communities of color are fairly represented in the re/drawing of district maps;
  • Identify local coalitions, collaborative and networking groups in the community such as church leaders, civic groups and other community activists to recruit members to participate in the redistricting process;
  • Recruit local residents to participate and attend public hearings about the redistricting process;
  • Attend community trainings facilitated by the city/county of San Bernardino about the redistricting process and the drawing of maps for the represented district(s);
  • Identify and secure the participation of city/county officials to speak at community of interest workshops to answer questions from the community;
  • Assist management with all other duties as assigned;

Job Benefits

This position is part-time and currently includes No Health Benefits.

Salary/Pay Rate

$20.00 per hour/20 hours per week (may convert to 30 hours per week after one year)
