Research shows that 1 in 4 Californian’s have suffered a criminal conviction and that 76 percent of unemployed parolees in San Bernardino County recidivate. Our VISTA’s will help the department bring an end to the revolving door of justice. Our VISTA’s will help to change the current structure of the criminal justice system in San Bernardino County by helping to expand the scale, impact and resource leveraging ability of the departments program Building Communities Through Post-Conviction Relief and Community Engagement. Our department is looking for 2 VISTA’s to help bring our vision to reality. (Currently the department has 2 listings. Please check the start date on the listings and apply for the one that works best for your schedule) Our VISTA’s will support the ongoing expansion of our post-conviction team’s efforts to remove convictions from resident’s records that serve as barriers to employment, promotions, housing, education and other social services. VISTA’s will attend community events and conduct community outreach to cultivate and strengthen relationships with community residents, beneficiaries, organizations and potential collaborators. Our VISTA’s will also assist in expanding our grassroots media campaign through social media tools to discover, cultivate and strengthen relationships with residents and community based organizations. By making direct contact with these groups, our VISTA’s will help to usher in a new dialogue for change that can begin to address specific local needs, which will be focused on creating pathways out of poverty for low-income communities.
