About Organization

The City of Ontario has an exciting opportunity for an individual passionate about serving the community, to join the team as an Ontario Promise Corps Youth Mentor. This position provides
tutoring and mentoring to students; information and resources to assist with higher education attainment; establishes positive connections with students and their families; and performs other
related work as necessary.

This position is a grant-funded position. While this position will work with the City of Ontario, it is not considered a City of Ontario position. Therefore the successful incumbents will not be
considered City employees and are not eligible to any City of Ontario employee benefits. In lieu of City-sponsored benefits, successful incumbents are eligible for a program-funded
benefits package that includes healthcare, childcare (space is limited), and mileage reimbursement for the duration of their assignment. An Education Award, (valued up to $10,000)
is awarded to those incumbents who successfully complete all required service hours.

Job Details

The City of Ontario has an exciting opportunity for an individual passionate about serving the community, to join the team as an Ontario Promise Corps Youth Mentor. This position provides tutoring and mentoring to students; information and resources to assist with higher education attainment; establishes positive connections with students and their families; and performs other related work as necessary.

General Responsibilities

The essential functions typically performed by the Youth Mentor include the following:

Plan structured and meaningful mentor activities.
Implement one-on-one and small group mentoring.
Attend regular mentor training provided by the program.
Collaborate with program staff to monitor mentee progress.
Serve as a mentor and positive role model to target mentees.
Report weekly on mentee contact logs and other important documents.
Appraise mentee progress using evaluation instruments provided by the program.
Create and manage a schedule to ensure all mentees receive appropriate hours.
Participate in team meetings and other events promoting the AmeriCorps identity.
Plan, implement and report on service projects to strengthen communities.
Participate in and reflect on community service experience.
